Project Minecraft 5th class Ms. N. Fay

The children in Ms. Fay’s 5th class have been lucky enough to start using Minecaft Education as part of Project Minecraft. Today they began designing some story settings for their favourite stories. Here are some photos of the children at work today. We were one of a few lucky schools to be accepted on this project and we are delighted to use our new HP tablets to work on our Minecraft creative challenges.

Engineers Week 2018: 5th class Ms. McDonagh

As part of Engineers Week 2018, Ms. McDonagh’s 5th class completed a ‘sturdy tower’ challenge.

Their challenge was to build a sturdy tower in their groups that was strong enough to hold a stack of textbooks! The children worked in groups of four to plan, build and test their design, working as engineers.

You can see what they built here.

Visit from a real “Dragon’ to 5th Class

Ms. Fay’s fifth class were extremely lucky because they had a real “Dragon” visit their classroom to talk to them about entrepreneurship.

Ms. Alison Cowzer, who is a past pupil of St. Brigid’s is co-founder of East Coast Bakehouse and a Dragons Den investor. She was so generous with her time and she spoke to the class about her time in St. Brigid’s and her journey to becoming an entrepreneur. She took time to hear all about their JEP project and provided some advice and tips.

She was so kind in bringing the class some delicious biscuits from her company.
We really appreciate her time, advice and kindness especially as she is such a busy lady.

The Dragon’s Den

As part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme, Ms Fay’s 5th class pupils presented their business ideas to a panel of dragons on Friday. The panel consisted of businessman, Mr. Brian Fitzsimons and teachers Ms. G. Fay and Ms. Brennan.

Each group presented their Powerpoint to the Dragons and responded to the questions they asked and listened to the feedback they gave. There were some very interesting points made and all the Dragons were impressed with the confidence and creativity of each group.

The business ideas in the class ranged from slime, copyholders, a comfortable cushion, a car wash service, bookmarks and tie-dye t-shirts. All of the ideas were excellent, however the judges felt the bookmarks idea had the most potential. The students  also voted and the bookmarks idea came out on top.  Over the next few weeks the entire class will be working on producing and selling bookmarks.

Here are just a few photos from the presentations.
