6th class had a very exciting day today as we had a visit from the Wriggle Roadcaster. A huge thanks to the Wriggle team for exploring coding in everyday life with the children and using sphero robots to develop critical and computational thinking.

The children in Room 3 have been developing their digital skills creating digital art work as part of their STEM block over the last few weeks. Look out for pictures of boats, ice cream, sunny days, rainbows, flowers, trucks, hearts among many other lovely pictures!
The children in Room 3 have been taking photographs of their activities all year long and have put them into a video for their Mum’s and Dad’s! Take a look below……

We are delighted to announce that St. Brigid’s has been awarded a SFI Discover Science and Maths Plaque of STEM Award for the academic year 2018/2019!
This award has been received in recognition of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths work that is undertaken across all classes in our school. A huge thanks to all the teachers and pupils in the school for all their hard work and enthusiasm!

‘Excellent log, clearly showing the huge amount of STEM work in the school this year. It demonstrates the application of science and maths skills by the children in a wide range of contexts. The use of technology for movies, coding and map making with Minecraft reflects great integration into work across the curriculum. Congratulations on your Award and well done to everyone!’
STEM education is an approach to teaching and learning that integrates the content and skills of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The learning is project-based and focuses on inquiry, student-led investigation and the development of 21st century skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and the use of technology. Our STEM initiative has been running in our school since Sept. 2016 and is facilitated by Ms. O’Callaghan.
The children in Room 1 have been creating themed digital art as part of their STEAM block in the computer room. You can see a selection of their work in the video below. Look out for some rainbows, flowers, farms, houses, ice cream, volcanoes and some beautiful abstract work!
The children in room 1 planted cress seeds a few weeks ago and have been looking after and observing their plants as they have grown.
The children took a photo each day to record the growth and have created a stop-motion video for you all to see! Take a look!
Junior Infants made St. Patrick’s Day hats this week and worked hard to learn the song ‘Lá ‘le Pádraig’.
Today they held a parade on the school grounds, with instruments, banners and flags. They wore their hats with pride and sang their hearts out! Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig daoibh go léir! ]#
