Safety in the Car Park ….REMINDERS

We need your support to protect all our children.

The safety of pupils at the school entrance and in the church car park has become a serious issue for us in St. Brigid’s. It has been discussed at recent staff meetings and Board of Management meetings. The manner in which some adults park at both places and the speed at which they drive through the church car park is causing a serious risk to pupils coming and leaving our school.

We are particularly concerned for children stepping out between parked cars onto the path of oncoming traffic – we ask parents to be vigilant for the unexpected child rushing out suddenly in the school vicinity. We believe that a child could be seriously injured if drivers dropping off and collecting children do not alter their driving habits.

Please:

  • Drive SLOWLY and with care through the car park
  • Follow the ONE-WAY SYSTEM (arrows) in the church car park
  • Adhere to DOUBLE YELLOW-LINE and yellow box restrictions
  • Park ONLY in designated parking bays in the Church car park
  • Do not park or stop alongside the school railings at the Church car park
  • Use the set-down area for very brief stops
  • DO NOT PARK ON ROUNDABOUTS OR GRASS VERGES
  • KEEP CHILDREN’S VIEWS AT PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS CLEAR

Furthermore, when parking on adjacent roads, respect our neighbours’ right to access their driveways without any inconvenience.

Please, accept these suggestions as a genuine effort to guard against accidents or injury in the school vicinity. By working together, we can all contribute to pupil safety.

On a separate issue, please be aware that some children are afraid of dogs, so meeting them at the gate on their way in and out of school can be very upsetting. Please do not wait near the entrance if you are bringing your dog to drop off or collect your child.

PTA Volunteers Needed

Would you like to join our P.T.A. this year?

The P.T.A. Committee consists of twelve parents or guardians and three teachers. The P.T.A. aims to support the school in offering the best possible learning opportunities to our pupils, to organise social events for parents and pupils and to raise funds for the school. Members also provide a parental view at School Development Planning meetings and with policy development.

If you can commit to our P.T.A. for a year, please print and complete THIS FORM and return it to the school office by Monday, 3rd October and we will be in touch.  Alternatively, you can pick up a form at reception.

If joining the Committee is not for you, you can add your name to our list of helpers by texting the P.T.A. phone on 086 4523838, indicating that you would like to volunteer as a helper.

Please click here for the volunteer form.

Mobile Phones and Smart Watches

We want to remind all parents and guardians that mobile phones and smartwatches with internet access or messaging capabilities are not permitted in school even if they are turned off or on school mode.

Smart watches with games are not permitted as they are very distracting in class.

It is at a teacher’s discretion to ask a pupil not to wear a smartwatch in school.
