Virtual Reality in 5th!

Ms. Nicola Fay’s 5th class were very lucky this week as Thomas brought in a virtual reality headset and touch to demonstrate it to his class. He developed the game using Unity and an SDK kit and it took him a month to develop. He recently showcased this game at CoderDojo’s Coolest Projects in the RDS where over one hundred people visited his project. Everyone in Ms. Fay’s class had a turn exploring the game which is based in the grounds of a castle and you are challenged to pick up blocks on a table. They were all amazed at the detail and creativity in Thomas’ virtual reality game. Thanks also to his Dad, John who set up the equipment and helped with the demonstrations.

6th Class Concert

Last Thursday some of the musical talent from the 6th class performed for the school and the standard was incredible. We had a dancer, guitar players, singers, pianists, a classical guitarist and a violin player. On top of all this the Senior Choir performed all their repertoire from Feis Ceoil. Despite it being the hottest day of the year everyone had a lovely time.

Sorry we didn’t get photos of all the performers as  the battery died in the camera

Buddy Reading

We have a great program called Buddy Reading in Junior Infants this year. The older 5th class children come down to Junior Infants four days a week for ten minutes to listen to their younger buddies read and to chat to them about the stories. Last week, instead of reading, Ms. N. Fay’s 5th class were invited down to eat their lunch with their buddies and they all had great fun.

Toy and Book Sale in 2nd Class

The children in 3rd class are very kind.. Earlier in the year they held a cake sale for the Coolmine Rehab Centre and last week they held a toy and book sale in aid of the Peter Mc Verry Trust.  Each child in the class donated toys and books they didn’t need and sold them ( very cheaply) to the other 3rd classes. They raised a staggering €270 in one afternoon.  Well done to the  fundraisers in Ms. O’Halloran’s class and a big thank you to the other three classes for spending all their pocket money.

A little information about the Mc Verry Trust below.

Peter McVerry Trust has been responding to the needs of  people effected by homelessness since 1983. The charity has developed a range of services to tackle homelessness, drug misuse and social disadvantage.
